World Champion Powerlifter is new Bevill instructor


Alex Moore of Fayette is the new Electrical System Technology instructor at Bevill State Community College.

Alex Moore, the new Electrical System Technology instructor at Bevill State Community College in Fayette, is used to accomplishing a lot at a young age. Moore graduated in 2018 from Fayette County High School and when he walked across the stage to receive his diploma, he had already earned more than 30 credit hours as a dual enrollment student at Bevill State Community College.

 

Farris signs scholarship with MVC

Sydney Farris, a 2020 high school graduate of Hubbertville School, signed a four-year athletic scholarship for powerlifting on Friday, May 15 with Missouri Valley College (MVC), located in Marshall, Mo. Farris competed as a junior elite in USPA powerlifting, and is a former national and world record holder for 52 kg. juniors. She was trained by Jessie Lindsey at West Alabama Barbell Club for four years, and currently self-trains at American Gym in Winfield.  

 

Local duo win big in powerlifting meet


Samuel Morrison of Fayette is shown competing on Dec. 7 at the “Drug-Tested, Golden Apes Power Challenge” in Decatur. Morrison won first in both the bench and deadlift, setting a national record in the deadlift.

Samuel Morrison and Jessie Lindsey of Fayette traveled to Decatur on Dec. 7 and brought home medals and new records to add to the growing collection earned by members of the “West Alabama Barbell Club.” Lindsey, who competes in the Masters 40-44 year old class, had not competed in about a year and was moving up a weight classification at the Decatur “Golden Apes Power Challenge. He said the event is drug tested, which means that participants have to build their strength and stamina through natural means and weight training, without the use of steroids and illegal drugs.

West Alabama Barbell Club strikes gold in West Virgina


Three members of the West Alabama Barbell Club competed recently in the national championship of powerlifting. Shown in front is Sydney Farris and behind from left are: Jessie Lindsey and Alex Moore.

A trio of Fayette County residents ventured into the hills of West Virgina and brought home the gold during the U.S. National Powerlifting Association’s Drug-Tested National Championships, held in Charleston, West Virgina. Alex Moore, Jessie Lindsey and Sydney Farris competed in meet and won seven gold medals and one bronze medals in the eight events that they competed in. They also set several national and world records in the process.
