Fayette secures 28-7 victory against Haleyville Lions

The Fayette Tigers hosted the Haleyville Lions on Friday at John Morgan Brown Stadium. The Lions received the ball on the kickoff but were forced to punt.

Hubbertville defeats Marion Co. Red Raiders 22-18

The Lions hosted the Marion County Red Raiders on Friday night at Wiley Hollingsworth Stadium. Winning the coin toss and electing to receive the Lions opening drive started from the 20-yard line following Tye Madison’s touchback kickoff.

Cycle of the South comes through Fayette

On Saturday, Concord Baptist Church hosted around 30 bicyclists participating in a “Cycle for the South” fundraiser for the American Cancer Society (ACS), co-sponsored by Nucor Steel. The cyclists embarked on a journey from Memphis, Tenn. to Birmingham, with the church providing a rest stop and refreshments along the way.

Fayette Arts Festival Winners

The 54th Annual Fayette Arts Festival was held on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Fayette Civic Center. There were activities for all ages as well as many returning and new artists showcasing their original works. The festival is a major event each year, attracting artists and visitors from all over. 

Roadway issues brought to commission

The Fayette County Commission held its regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 9, at the Courthouse Annex Building. Commission Chairman Mike Freeman led the meeting with a prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. All commissioners were in attendance except for District Five Robert Townley and District Six John Underwood.

Fayette man arrested for animal cruelty

A Fayette man has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty following reports from various dog owners. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation after receiving complaints about cruelty/abuse at “Simmons Banded Retrievers,” where a chocolate Labrador named “Remi” was attending obedience training. Reports show that the business is owned and operated by Lacey Simmons.
