City Council hears funding request

The Fayette City Council held its regular council meeting on Aug 8. All council members were present for the meeting. Prior to the start of the meeting, Councilman Eddy Campbell led the council in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. A large crowd of people was in attendance at the meeting to support the Fayette County Memorial Library. Library Director Jessica Crowe addressed the council to begin the meeting.

 

Junior City Council donates to library

Members of the Fayette Junior City Council recently held a charity basketball tournament fundraiser and donated the $1,425 proceeds from the tournament to the Fayette County Memorial Library to help fund a section of the library that will be dedicated to “Autism Awareness.”

Club celebrates 100 years of ‘Progress’

In March 1921, a group of very forward thinking ladies met for the first time for the sole purpose of helping to establish a permanent library in the City of Fayette. Toni Robertson, during a presentation at the Fayette Memorial Library on Sept. 9, said that someone suggested they call their newly established club the “Progress Club.” The name stuck, and so did the ladies’ determination to establish a library.

Fayette Memorial Library is now ‘fine-free’



Fines for overdue items are now a thing of the past for Fayette County Memorial Library. On Aug. 1, the library quietly implemented a new fine-free policy for its patrons. This change removes a barrier for people who cannot afford fines and wish to use the library, and it ensures that all members of our community have equitable access to library books and materials.

 

Rutland honored by dedication of new medical library at FMC

Dr. Richard O. Rutland was honored by a reception and dedication ceremony on March 10 at Fayette Medical Center, honoring his lifetime of medical achievements in the Fayette community and naming the new medical library in his honor. Sandy Nolen, chairperson of the Fayette Medical Center Board, opened the ceremony by thanking Rutland and the other “forward thinking leaders” who helped lead Fayette into the future.

 

Local library offers summer reading fun

Fayette County Memorial Library is proud to present the 2018 Summer Reading Program, “Libraries Rock!” from June 1 to July 20. The Summer Reading Program is comprised of the Summer Reading Challenge and a variety of events and programs offered throughout the summer. The Summer Reading Challenge asks patrons ages three to adult to pledge a number of books they believe they can read during the summer. If they meet their goals, they will receive a reading award and prize, and their names will be entered into a drawing for one of three grand prizes.
