DEBRA ANN TRAWEEK

Funeral services for Ms. Debra Ann Traweek, age 70, were held Sunday, April 19, 2026, from Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in New Chapel Cemetery.  She died Wednesday, April 15.
She was born May 4, 1955, to James Willard Traweek and Inez Gant Traweek. Debra graduated from Berry High School in 1973. In December of 1980, she began her career with Dal‑Tile, where she devoted many years working in the shipping department. She took great pride in her work and was known for her strong work ethic and dedication. Her coworkers were more than colleagues—they were family. Debra retired on June 5, 2020.
A fiercely loyal woman, Debra was deeply devoted to her family and friends. She was known for standing firmly by those she loved and was especially protective of her children and grandchildren. Honest and outspoken, she never wavered in her convictions and was never afraid to stand up for the underdog. Those who treated her and her family well found a steadfast and loving friend in Debra.
Debra had a lifelong love for softball and was a talented pitcher, playing for many winning teams. She was well known for her signature spinner ball. Beyond playing, she found great joy in coaching young girls and instilling in them a love for the game. The softball field was her second home, where she served as a mentor and mother figure not only to her own daughters, but to many others.
Community involvement was important to Debra. She was actively involved in Girl Scouts, serving as a troop leader and organizing numerous campouts, slumber parties and outdoor activities. After the loss of a beloved aunt to cancer, Debra became deeply involved in Relay for Life, where she led the Imo’s Angels Relay Team, organized fundraising efforts, hosted survivor dinners and served on the Relay Board for many years.
Debra was always the first to volunteer when someone was in need. Whether organizing a fundraiser, lending a helping hand, or quietly mowing a neighbor’s yard, she gave selflessly and without hesitation.
Strong-willed, independent, and determined, Debra lived her life with unwavering resolve. Though often described as stubborn, those traits served her well throughout her life and were values she proudly passed on to her daughters. Her strength, loyalty, and compassion will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her father and her brother, John Franklin Traweek.
She is survived by her mother, Inez; two daughters, Kristie Stockman (Johnny) of Benson, North Carolina and Emily Lucas (Eric) of Sulligent; cherished grandchildren, Bailey Ary (Michael), Cole Ary, Emma Grace Ary, Mason Lucas and Brody Lucas; longtime partner, Ricky Johnson; sister, Donna Catrett; brothers, Kenny Traweek, Jimmy Traweek (Sheila), David Traweek and Mike Traweek; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Zack Traweek, Charles Mabry, Chuck Brock, Casey Hayes, Roger Wallace and Jerlon Fowler.
