Bevill Baseball wins two-out-of-five for week



The Bevill State Bears played its second week of baseball and won two-out-of-five games for the week. The Bears traveled to Itawamba Community College in Fulton, Miss. to challenge the 17th ranked community college team in the nation on Feb. 8. Bevill gave a good accounting of its program by splitting games of a doubleheader by identical scores of 7-4.

 

Bevill State opens 2022 baseball season

Bevill State Community College in Fayette opened its 2022 baseball season this past weekend with a 2-2 split against Frontier Community College of Fairfield, Ill. The teams played a doubleheader on Saturday, with Frontier winning the first game by a score of 5-0. Blake Burgess was the starting pitcher for Bevill and suffered the loss. He pitched five innings, surrendering four hits, one earned run and struck out four opposing batters.

 

Ivey awards grant for Bevill State Community College



Governor Kay Ivey awarded a $20,000 Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) grant to establish a building operator certification program at Bevill State Community College in Jasper. The building operator certificate training is geared toward people who manage and maintain equipment in commercial buildings, including heating and air systems, and lighting.

 

Bevill State opens 2021 baseball season

The Bevill State Community College Bears opened its 2021 baseball season with a two-game series played in Florida. In the first game, Bevill State was defeated by St. Johns River College 8-5. The Bears scored its five runs all in the sixth inning of the game. Nick Pounders, Jackson Elkins and Braxton Knight drove in the runs for Bevill during the game. Jacob Hill suffered the loss for the Bears, allowing three hits and four runs in 2 1/3 innings. He struck out four batters.

 

Hagood named President of Bevill State Community College

Chancellor Jimmy H. Baker on Tuesday, Nov. 10, named Dr. Joel Hagood as President of Bevill State Community College. “When you combine Dr. Hagood’s proven leadership with his local expertise you get an ideal candidate for Bevill State’s next President,” Baker stated. “Bevill State’s diversity in programs matches its diversity in geography and I’m confident that with Dr. Hagood at the helm the college will continue to move the needle on student success.”

 

FCHS expands dual-enrollment opportunities with BSCC

Fayette County High School and Bevill State Community College have announced a new parnership that will expand opportunities for high school students to earn dual credit for college courses. Max Weaver, Dean of Student Success, and Sherry Terry, Director of Student Services for the Bevill - Fayette Campus, made the announcement of the expanded partnership at Fayette County High School on Feb. 28. The agreement will now allow students in the 11th grade to take classes at Bevill for dual credit. The classes for high school juniors will include U.S.

Bevill continues strong start to season

After opening the 2020 season with two wins at home, the Bevill State Community College baseball team has continued to be impressive so far during the season. Bevill travelled to Southwest Tennessee Community College and won by a score of 8-1. Tray Lacy of Winfield was the winning pitcher for Bevill, pitching seven innings and scattering four hits. Andrew Feola was the losing pitcher for Southwest Tennessee.

Windham encourages citizens to become involved


LaTasha Windham was the keynote speaker at Bevill State Community College’s “Celebrating Black History Month” program.

LaTasha Windham of Aliceville was the featured speaker at this year’s “Celebrating Black History Month” program, held on Feb. 13 at Bevill State Community College in Fayette. Windham is a native of Pickens County, and a graduate of Bevill State and Mississippi University for Women. She is currently employed with the U.S. Department of Justice – Federal Bureau of Prisons, working as a contract specialist.
