Fayette Medical Center hosted a reception on Sunday, Aug. 18 for its two new doctors, hospitalist Dr. Dakota Acton Jones and surgeon Dr. David Evans.
Donald Jones, administrator at Fayette Medical Center, was the featured speaker for the Fayette Area Chamber of Commerce’s “First Tuesday” luncheon on Aug. 6. “What a great year for Fayette Medical Center,” Jones said. He said that the hospital again received a “Five-Star” rating from the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services. He said the rating places the hospital in the top 6.5 percent of hospitals in the country for quality and patient care.
A new family physician has opened a practice at Fayette Medical Center (FMC). Dakota S. Acton-Jones, MD, is accepting patients at the Family Medical Clinic at Fayette Medical Center. She will also see patients admitted to the hospital as a hospitalist. Dr. Acton-Jones comes to FMC from Pickens County Primary Care. She is board certified in family medicine and is certified in advanced cardiac life support, advanced trauma life support and pediatric advanced life support.
Dr. Henry A. Spies of Bonham, Texas recently left $600,000 to the Fayette Medical Center Foundation and an equal amount of $600,000 to Fayette Medical Center Long Term Care.
A new surgeon with extensive experience has opened his medical practice in Fayette. David Evans, MD, MBA, MPH, has practiced general and vascular surgery since 1988. He is now taking appointments to perform surgery at Fayette Medical Center.
Fayette Medical Center held a Community Health Fair on Friday, April 12 to help inform the residents about medical services available in the area and also to offer educational materials and services. In addition to the various agencies and departments located at Fayette Medical Center, other medical providers were on-hand to talk about the services that they offer and to provide information and demonstrations for the public.
The Fayette Medical Center (FMC) and the FMC Long-Term Care facility have been recognized as among the top healthcare facilities in the nation. FMC achieved a five-star rating from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the federal agency that administrates Medicare. FMC is one of only five hospitals in Alabama and one of 293 nationwide to receive this rating, placing FMC in the top 6.5 percent of the nation’s 4,500 hospitals.
The Fayette Medical Center Foundation recently announced this year’s recipients of its “Nutrition Fuels Fitness” scholarships. Selected as this year’s recipients were Bevill students Cade Harris, Madison Dunn and Hunter Reynolds. Each received a $1,000 scholarship that can be used at any college that they choose to attend.
