Morgan wins council seat

Micky Joe Morgan was officially declared the winner of the Ward 2 City Council seat following a canvassing of election results held on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Qualifying ends for muncipal elections

Fayette County had a key race for the District Five State Senate seat on Tuesday, June 24. In the unofficial report, Democrat Ryan Cagle received 109 votes (9.68 percent) to Republican Matt Woods 1,014 votes (90.05 percent).

Municipal elections will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

The qualifying period for municipal offices concluded on Tuesday, June 24. The council positions and mayoral offices for both Berry and Glen Allen were unopposed. The City of Fayette closed qualifications with the following candidates to appear on the Aug. 26 ballot.

Primaries are March 5



The State of Alabama will hold its party primaries and constitutional amendment election on Tuesday, March 5. Most of the contested races that will appear on the ballot involve statewide offices, with the exception of the United States presidential race and two district races for Fayette County Commissioner on the Republican ballot.

Brinyark, Underwood faceoff in Jan. 9 election



Republican Bryan Brinyark and Democrat John Underwood will meet in a Jan. 9 general election to determine who will serve in the Alabama House of Representative, District 16 seat, for the next three years. The winner of the general election will fill the remainder of the unexpired term left when former representative Kyle South resigned effective June 30 to become the President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama.

 

Make your voice heard; vote on Jan. 9



Although it seems to have almost gotten lost during all of the activities surrounding the holiday season, there is a pretty significant event occurring early in the New Year - the general election for the Alabama House of Representative from District 16. This is the representative that will serve Fayette County, and also a portion of Jefferson and Tuscaloosa counties,  for the remainder of the unexpired term (three years).

 

Hubbert defeats Ivey for County Commission seat



In the only locally contested race within Fayette County for the Nov. 4 General Election, Republican David Hubbert defeated Democrat Willie Ivey for the Fayette County Commission District 3 seat. Hubbert received 799 votes (87.61 percent) to 107 votes (11.73 percent for Ivey). Hubbert will take the oath of office prior to the next meeting of the Fayette County Commission.

 

Burkhalter, Agnew win local runoffs

Fayette County Superintendent of Education Jim Burkhalter defeated Berry High School Principal Steve Sawyer in the June 21 Republican Primary runoff election. The win virtually assures Burkhalter of a third term as superintendent, since he will not have a Democratic challenger for the office during the November general election.
