Multiple fire departments battle flames at Berry home

On Thursday, Jan. 30, multiple agencies responded to a structure fire in Berry on Co. Rd. 30 E. The Berry Fire Department, Boley Fire Department, Bankston Stough Fire Department and Samantha Fire Department arrived on scene to combat the fire but the home was completely destroyed. Berry Fire Chief Randall Kelley expressed sincere appreciation to all responding departments and firefighters for their exceptional service

Location of ball field sparks discussion during city council meeting



The Fayette City Council held its regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at city hall, with all members present except for Councilwoman Aliska Hughes-Monroe. The meeting opened with a prayer led by Milborn Savage, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Councilman Jerry Nichols. Mayor Rod Northam called the meeting to order and requested approval of the minutes from the Jan. 14 meeting, which were unanimously approved.

Megan Woods to perform in Fayette

Singer and Songwriter Megan Woods will be making a special appearance in Fayette on June 28, performing live at the Fayette Civic Center. Tickets to see the Christian artist in concert are set to go on sale Feb. 3 and will be available for $10, with all proceeds and donations going directly to Hope’s Choice. Berry boys win against Brilliant 66-32

The Berry varsity boys team lost to Hubbertville on Monday, Jan. 20, by a score of 67- 50. The Wildcats fell to Lamar County 64-60 on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

On Friday, Jan. 24, the Wildcats fell to Hubbertville, 65-54. Berry secured a 66-32 win against Brilliant on Saturday, Jan. 25.

Milestone win for Coach Hynds

Hubbertville basketball coach Caleb Hynds recorded his 200th basketball coaching win last week when the Hubbertville Varsity Lady Lions defeated Vernon. Hynds took over the position of coach at Hubbertville in 2021 from Lamar Harris.

The Hubbertville varsity boys basketball team had sa string of wins last week. They defeated Sumiton Christian on Tuesday, Jan. 21, with a final score of 88- 70.

The Lions triumphed over Lamar County, 77-56 on Wednesday, Jan. 22. On Friday, Jan. 24, the Lions defeated Berry 65-54.
