SAMMY HINDMAN
Funeral services for Mr. Sammy Edward Hindman, age 71 of Fayette, were held Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, at 11 a.m.from Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. He died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026. Though sudden and tragic, he passed doing what he loved best—hauling hay on a John Deere tractor.
Sammy never met a stranger and was a friend to many. As a lifelong resident of Fayette, he graduated from Fayette High School and Brewer State Junior College. Until the moment he died, Sammy was active in the community, helping with various committees and agricultural projects. He was instrumental in bringing the Fayette County Multipurpose Complex to life, where many events and competitions are enjoyed year-round.
In addition to farming, he was well known for hosting tractor pulls across the South, starting in the mid-2000s when Fayette resurrected an annual tractor pull. He also enjoyed teaching kids about farm life, giving pony rides at the Fayette rodeo, and watching his grandkids’ sports.
Sammy was preceded in death by his father, Hulon Hindman of Fayette.
He is survived by his mother, Maylene Hindman of Fayette, known affectionately as “Ma”; two sons, Neil (Kristin) Hindman of Fayette and Blake (Kaci) Hindman of Brownville; two brothers, Dale (Jeanie) Hindman of Fayette and Ken (Kristina) Hindman of Arlington, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Brianna (Trevor) Peebles, Lane Hindman and Blakely Hindman; as well as many loving nephews and nieces.
