Wildcats defeat Bears 30-22

In boxing, sometimes you get two finesse fighters who dance and jab at each other, and other times you get fighters who stand toe to toe and trade huge punches. Berry and Lynn fell into the latter category Friday night. As the Wildcats faced their first road test of the season, the two teams traded big drive after big drive before Berry took a 30-22 win in the game’s closing seconds. Lynn won the toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff. The Bears returned the kick to their 48-yard line, and on the fourth play of the drive, Jon Jordan scored on a 22-yard run. Jordan added the two-point conversion to give Lynn an 8-0 lead with 9:52 remaining in the first quarter. The Berry offense took the field at the Bears’ 49-yard line for its first series. Seven plays later, Drayke Parr scored on a 36-yard pass from Zack Hollingsworth. Hollingsworth ran for the two-point conversion to tie the game at 8 with 7:03 remaining in the first quarter. Lynn answered with a five-play scoring drive. Kolt Johnson scored on a 28-yard run to put the Bears back in front. The Berry defense stopped the two-point conversion attempt, leaving Lynn with a 14-8 lead with 3:52 remaining in the first quarter.
