MLK Annual Commemoration march held

The Annual Commemoration March celebrating the life and legacy of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. took place on Monday, Jan. 20. The event started at the Fayette County Courthouse, where Rev. Kelcey Hale led scripture and prayer, followed by Bro. Milborn Savage leading the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem. Mayor Rod Northam welcomed the participants, and Rev. Charlie Humphreys explained the purpose of the march. Before the march began, Junior City Council Mayor Sean White led a prayer.

Fayette County held a Martin Luther King Day rally on Jan. 16, beginning on the courthouse lawn and proceeding to the First Baptist Church on Martin Luther King Drive for a brief service.

Marchers celebrate MLK Day march and rally in Fayette


Shown are several of the participants in the second annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day march and rally. The rally began on the front lawn of the Fayette County Courthouse and concluded at the First Baptist Church on Martin Luther King Drive.

The second annual march and rally in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day was held in downtown Fayette on Monday, Jan. 20. The event was organized by the Fayette County Ministerial Alliance. The celebration began at the Fayette County Courthouse and continued through the streets of Fayette to the First Baptist Church on Martin Luther King Drive. Despite the bitterly cold temperature, a crowd of approximately 100 people participated in some part of the walk and rally.
