FCHS boys golf team wins Fayette Country Club Invitational

On Tuesday, April 22, the Fayette County High School boys’ golf team competed at the Fayette Country Club against various teams and won the Fayette Invitational. Winning medalists included Clark Vandiver, Charlie Cooper and Sawyer Stevenson for making All Tournament. FCHS Men’s Golf Team goes undefeated

The FCHS Men’s Golf Team are undefeated this year in the regular season with wins at the West Alabama Conference on Wednesday, March 23, and Invitational on Tuesday, April 23. Both held at the Fayette Country Club. The Tigers were runner up at Sectionals and boasting a low round of 76, Clark Vandiver led the whole field.

The Fayette Country Club held the inaugural West Alabama Conference Golf Tournament on Wednesday, March 27. For the first time in school history, Fayette County High School has established an all-girls golf team.

 

Fayette golf team has successful season

The Fayette County High School 2022 golf season came to a close on  May 22 at Sub-State in Dothan on the Robert Trent Jones Highland Oaks Golf Course. Head Golf Coach Ray Trull said that this event was one step short of completing the team’s goal for another trip to the state championship.

FCHS golf team finishes fourth in state

The Fayette County High School golf team recently completed a successful season, with a fourth place finish in the Class 4A State Championship. The fourth place finish was the icing on the cake for an all-around successful season. The team finished the regular season undefeated, was second in the five-team Fayette Invitational, finished second in the WAC Tournament, held at Oak Hill Country Club, and finished third in the Class 4A Sectional Tournament, held at Ol’ Colony in Tuscaloosa.

Fayette Kiwanis Club still helping children with golf tournament

The Fayette Kiwanis Club held its 25th annual Golf Tournament on Sept. 30 at the Fayette Country Club to raise money for The Weldy Home in Fayette County. The home is now temporarily closed, but is still licensed and is expected to reopen once the coronavirus pandemic subsides. The Weldy Home opened in 1991, and prior to its closure last year, served as a group home for young girls who needed a stable home environment. The Kiwanis Golf Tournament began in 1996, and each year, the proceeds from the tournament have gone to help The Weldy Home.

Young golfer with local ties one of top junior golfers in U.S.

Jackson Van Paris, grandson of Nicky and Lynn Whitehead of Fayette, has established himself as one of the best young golfers in the United States. Now, he has his sights set on excelling in world competition. Van Paris, a resident of Pinehurst, N.C., and a junior at Pinecrest High School, will be traveling to Melbourne, Australia in December as a member of a 12-player United States team that will compete against a 12-member international team for the 2019 Junior Presidents’ Cup. The events will be held at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
