Sheriff department makes major drug bust

The Fayette County Sheriff Department made a major drug bust this month, removing several grams of illegal drugs from the streets. While in the course of a routine investigation, Deputy Justin Watkins and Deputy Chris Hubbert arrived at the home of James Sherman Jones, located at 1507 2nd Ave. SW in Fayette.

Striegel retires with more than 44 years in law enforcement


Deputy Sam Striegel retired on Jan. 11 with more than 44 years in law enforcement.

Fayette County Sheriff Department Deputy Sam Striegel retired on Jan. 11 with more than 44 years of service in law enforcement. Striegel began wotking as a patrolman at the Fayette Police Department in March 1972 nad worked for more than 16 years before deciding to try something different.

 

Murder investigation underway in Fayette County

A murder investigation is currently underway in Fayette County after two male victims were found deceased at a residence off of County Road 63 near the Walker County line. According to Andy Hamlin, chief assistant district attorney for the 24th judicial circuit, a 911 call was received from a female caller at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1. Hamlin, who was working the crime scene later that morning, said that they were handling the matter as a death investigation, with multiple agencies cooperating in the effort.

 

Sheriff Department urges residents to use caution when driving

Recent reports of the unauthorized use of blue police lights on a personal vehicle has prompted the Fayette County Sheriff Department to issue a warning to the public. A female resident was recently driving on County Road 26 when a black Dodge Charger pulled up behind her and turned on blue lights similar to the ones used by law enforcement. The driver did not pull over and soon the person driving the Charger turned off onto another road.
