Fayette Middle School students celebrate Black History Month

Guest speaker Ralph Williams encourages FMS students to create positive change in the world.

Fayette Middle School held a Black History month program on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 10 a.m. The program was titled “The dream is still alive.” The program began with music by Walt Whitman titled “We are one”. Liz Davis followed with a short welcome speech, stating “Black history isn’t just something from the past, it’s still happening today.” 

Superintendent addresses safety concerns at Fayette Middle School

Fayette County School Superintendent Jim Burkhalter held an open meeting to address concerns about Fayette Middle School on Thursday, July 18 at the FMS gym. Deputy Superintendent Mary Raines and FMS Assistant Principal Ray Trull were in attendance, along with many concerned parents.

Savage speaks at Black History Month program

Corey Savage, a graduate of Fayette County High School and current resident of Fayette County, spoke at the annual Fayette Middle School’s “Black History Month Celebration,” held on Feb. 8 at the school’s gymnasium. In addition to being a graduate of Fayette County High School, Savage is also a graduate of Bevill State Community College and Auburn University. He is currently the pastor of Plum Grove Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa.

 

FMS celebrrates Black History Month

Fayette Middle School held its annual “Black History Month Program” on Feb. 17, with Fayette First Baptist Church Pastor Scott Davis as the featured speaker for the program. Also participating in the program were several students, who spoke about the meaning of Black History Month and recounted significant events throughout the Civil Rights movement.

Fayette Middle School held its annual “Black History Month” program on Friday, Feb. 18 in the school’s gymnasium. The program was led by Fayette Middle School students. The audience was welcomed to the program by Makiyah Hannah. The opening prayer was led by Sofi Gant. Next, several students sang an inspiring rendition of the song, “We are the World.”

Fayette Middle School celebrates Veterans Day

The Fayette Middle School held its annual Veterans Day program on Nov. 10 to recognize and acknowledge local veterans who proudly served in the United States Armed Services. Guest speaker for the program was First Sergeant Albert Mitchell. Mitchell is a 39-year service veteran who has participated in 12 oversees deployments.

FMS receives art instruction

Judy Godfrey and Susan Newman, members of the Sipsey Arts Alliance, have been volunteering at Fayette Middle School this school year to work with the fifth grade students. They have worked with the students to not only teach them about the skill involved in art, but to also develop an interest and love for art among the students.

 

FMS fifth grade spreads Christmas joy

On Monday, Dec. 16, the Fayette Middle School fifth grade class shared their love for Christmas with others throughout the Fayette community. The class visited the Fayette County Courthouse and the downtown Fayette area, where they sang Christmas carols and presented stuffed toys to workers and others who stopped to listen to their merry songs. They also visited the Fayette Medical Center Long-Term Care facility to sing to the residents and presented each one of them with a stuffed animal.

 

FMS seeks to help others during holidays


The Fayette Middle School FBLA and FMS Student Council partnered to host a can food drive during the month of November.

The students at Fayette Middle School are trying to help others have a brighter holiday season this year. The Fayette Middle School FBLA and FMS Student Council partnered to host a can food drive during the month of November. All can food items are being donated to the Fayette Christian Center of Concern. Additionally, The Fayette Middle School Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) has chosen to adopt Fayette Medical Center Long-Term Care Facility as their community service project.
