High-speed internet coming to Fayette

A historic event occurred at the Fayette Civic Center on Friday, June 11, an event that will transform how many people in the area will be able to transact business and school-work in the near-future. Tombigbee Electric announced a partnership with Alabama Power that will bring affordable, high-speed internet to the area through Tombigbee’s subsidiary company, freedom FIBER. Fayette Mayor Rod Northam opened the event by proclaiming, “This is a big day for not only the City of Fayette, but also for Fayette County.”

Alabama Power donates to Joey Day

The Alabama Power Foundation donated money to the Fayette Joey Day Project. The project buys clothes and toys for needy children in the area during the Christmas season.

BSCC receives Alabama Power grant

City Council hears firefighters appeal for tax increase

The Fayette City Council heard an appeal from the Forestry Commission concerning a proposed three mil property tax increase to benefit the fire departments in the county during its Feb. 26 meeting. Council member Jason Cowart was absent from the meeting with all other council members present.

 

Bevill receives Alabama Power grant

Bevill State Community College received an Alabama Power “Good Roots” grants totaling $4,900 this year for each of its five locations - Fayette, Jasper, Hamilton, Sumiton, and the Pickens County Educational Center. These funds will be used to plant trees and for various landscaping projects on each of the campuses. The Good Roots Grants were created to encourage projects that improve the quality of the environment in our communities, towns and cities by planting more trees.

 

Alabama Power presents grant to Weldy Home

Alabama Power Company recently awarded an “Efficiency Forward Grant” for approximately $7,000 to the Weldy Home to replace a heating/air conditioning unit at the facility. The Weldy Home, located in Fayette County, is a group home where girls who have been neglected or abandoned can receive nurturing and support in a safe family atmosphere.

 

Alabama Power engineer speaks to Exchange Club

Alabama Power Engineering Supervisor Russell Hill recently spoke to members of the Fayette Exchange Club concerning an extensive project that his company is undertaking in the Fayette area. Alabama Power is installing new power poles and a fiber-optic integrated system that will allow for quick restoration of power during a power outage.
