The Hubbertville Lions traveled south to Bibb County for a non-region contest with the West Blocton Tigers. Winning the coin toss, the Lions elected to receive, sending Landon Dodd and Kane Rushing back deep. Brandon Hernandez’s kick was fielded at the 13-yard line by Dodd, who advanced to the 32 to set up quarterback Blaize Wakefield and the Lions offense with their opening possession. Utilizing the ground game of Gavin Hubbert and a pass completion to Rushing, the Lions quickly moved into Tigers territory with a first down at the 33. Sticking with Hubbert on the rushing attack and adding a Wakefield connection with Hunter Rochester, the Lions advanced inside the West Blocton red zone with a first down at the 9. On second down, Wakefield completed a pass to Rushing, who fought his way into the end zone with 8:40 showing on the clock. The 2-point conversion was denied, leaving the score 6-0. Following Hutch Miles’ ensuing kick, the Tigers offense began its opening possession at the Lions 47. Utilizing Charles Graham in the ground game, the Tigers advanced inside the Lions red zone, facing first-and-goal from the 10. Braylon Hill and a host of Lions met Graham for the stop after a 3-yard gain. Rochester and Hill stopped Graham after another 3-yard gain, bringing up third down at the 4. Third down brought an incomplete pass in the back of the end zone, leaving the Tigers facing fourth-and-goal. Hernandez then kicked a field goal to put the Tigers on the scoreboard with 4:40 remaining in the first quarter.
