The Berry Wildcats traveled to Brilliant to face the Tigers in their fourth road game of the year. The Wildcats came away with a victory that closed out region play and solidified Berry as the two-seed in the upcoming playoffs.
The Hamilton Aggies hosted the Fayette Tigers on Friday night, Oct. 25.
The Hubbertville Lions traveled to Sumiton Christian on Friday night to take on the Eagles.
The Fayette County Board of Education held a meeting on Tuesday Oct. 22 at the Berry Elementary School Library. All board members were present except for District Two Board Member Tierre Agnew.
The Fayette City Council held its regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Fayette City Hall, with all members present. The meeting began with a prayer led by Pastor of LifePoint Ministry and Worship Center, Darryl Ballew, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance recited by Arrow of Life Cub Scout Jaxon Watkins.
The Fayette County Commission held its regular meeting on Monday, Oct. 22, at the Courthouse Annex Building. Commission Chairman Mike Freeman led the meeting, opening with a prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. All commissioners were present except for District Four commissioner Wesley Jacobs.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance for any information regarding break-ins at three local churches. The burglaries have occurred over the past month. The churches that were targeted are all within the same geographical area on County Road 35. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with any information is urged to call the sheriff’s office at (205) 932-3205.
A defendant responsible for the murder of his former wife has been sentenced to serve two life sentences in prison, 24th Judicial Circuit District Attorney Andy Hamlin announced.

On Wednesday, Oct. 16, the Fayette Police Department responded to a two-vehicle collision in the 1400 block of Temple Ave N. Reports indicate that the driver of a red Toyota Yaris rear-ended another vehicle in the McDonald’s drivethru and began spinning his tires. As the driver of the other vehicle moved out of the way, the Toyota continued forward, crossing the four-lane roadway and colliding with a pole at Jack’s. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
The Berry Wildcats continued Region 5 play by hosting the Pickens County Tornadoes. Pickens County won the toss and elected to defer to the second half.
The Lynn Bears visited Hubbertville on Friday night. Winning the coin toss and electing to receive, the Bears wasted little time taking their opening possession to the end zone.
The Tigers hosted the Good Hope Raiders at John Morgan Brown Stadium, Waldon Tucker Field, on Friday night. Before the game, Fayette’s senior football players, cheerleaders and band members were escorted by their parents and honored during Senior Night.
The Glen Allen town council held its regular scheduled council meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the town’s community center. All council members were present with the exception of Councilwoman Bobbie S. McCraw.
On Saturday, Oct. 12, over 400 alumni and teachers from Fayette County High School, spanning classes from 1960 to 1979, gathered on the Fayette County Courthouse lawn for a memorable multi-year class reunion. The event featured live music from the band C-Plus, which entertained guests with dance tunes and singalongs of beloved songs from their high school days. Attendees also honored their classmates who had passed away, with each class displaying a memory board to commemorate those lost.
The Berry Wildcats continued region play as they traveled to face the Sumiton Christian Eagles. Sumiton Christian won the toss and elected to receive.

Traveling to Brilliant on Friday night the Hubbertville Lions were quick to light up the scoreboard. Blake Jenkins’ onside opening kick was pounced on by Tucker Bowen setting Blaize Wakefield and the Lions offensive front up with excellent field position at the 50-yard line
The Fayette Community Foundation is accepting grant applications for 2024. All applicants should be aware the grant application has changed this year and all previous versions will not be accepted. Applications are available at the Fayette Co. Probate Office located on the first floor of the Courthouse through Thursday, Oct. 31. Office hours are Mondays from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. amd Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. All applications must be received in hand by the Fayette Community Foundation’s Administrative Coordinator, Jennifer Fowler, by 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31.
